Description Do you like to talk to people? Do you know all about the different LGBT political groups, social service organizations, and social clubs who meet in the Bay Area? Or would you like to learn all about them? We need Information and Referral volunteers to greet Center visitors and respond to their questions about local LGBT resources and programs.
Time Commitment 3 hours/week
Committee Type Limited availability, by application only. Special skills and training may be required

Volunteer Requirements •Strong customer service skills: friendly, patient, & professional
•Detail oriented
•Basic Internet research skills
•Ability to work as part of a team
•Ability to work with and assist a diversity of people---all races, ethnicities, ages, income levels, sexual orientations, and genders
Specific Duties •Answer the telephone and direct callers appropriately
•Maintain and update Center information tables, bulletin boards, and publication tables
•Create, maintain, and distribute information packets to new San Francisco and visitors to the city
•Answer questions posed by Center visitors
•Guide tours of the Center
•Maintain and update event board in the front lobby
•Facilitate communication between visitors, staff members, volunteers, and Center tenants
•Update the Information & referral database
Training Requirements All volunteers must first attend the Center’s volunteer orientation before applying to work at the Front Desk. If you would like to apply to be a Front Desk Assistant, please sign up above. Applicants will be asked to attend a brief one-on-one meeting with the Program Coordinator and Front Desk staff. Those selected must attend a one-time Front Desk training and shadow one of our other Front Desk volunteers for one shift before being eligible to be added to the schedule. Front Desk team members are required to make a 4 month commitment, during which they agree to work on at least one three hour shift per week. At the end of four months, shifts can be renewed for the next four month period by mutual consent.
